International Poster Tour: ROSEMARY’S BABY (dir. Roman Polanski) 1968
Rosemary’s Baby endures in part because of how much it leaves to the imagination, as it’s a film that thrives on unseen horrors that can only be felt, even when they’re corrupting your marriage and / or growing in your belly. indeed, methinks that one of the greatest testaments to its power is the idea that Polanski’s classic continues to inspire a wide and devious array of graphic designs, despite boasting one of the most iconic posters in Hollywood history (referenced up top). it’s the perfect film for Poland’s notoriously demented movie posters, but the comic book approach and the minimalist stork are also spot on (feel free to drop me a message if you know who’s responsible).
and then there’s the satan sperm, which still might be my favorite.
The Criterion Collection will release Rosemary’s Baby on dvd & blu-ray on 10/30/12.
